A piazza in Venice, Italy
Somewhere in Venice — a square, on an ordinary daytime. The exact piazza is unnamed in the recording; somewhere in the sestieri, the kind of place that feels like it has always been there. The square is full. Footsteps cross stone in every direction, the sound particular to Venice — no cars, no tyres, just leather on paving. Voices layer over each other: Italian, and other languages, and laughter. A group of musicians plays nearby, the melody carrying easily across the open air, bouncing off stone walls on three sides. This is not the Venice of early morning, before the crowds. This is the city in full use — warm, loud, a little chaotic, completely itself.
